January 23, 1864. Attached to U.S. Forces, Norfolk and Portsmouth, Va., Dept. of
Virginia and North Carolina, to June, 1864. Unattached, Dept. of Virginia and
North Carolina, to August, 1864. 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 18th Corps, Army of
the James, to December, 1864. 1st Brigade, 3rd Division, 25th Corps, to
December, 1864. 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 25th Corps, and Dept. of Texas, to
January, 1867.
SERVICE.-Duty at Norfolk and Portsmouth, Va., till June, 1864. Operations
against Petersburg and Richmond June, 1864, to April, 1865. Battle of Chaffin's
Farm, New Market Heights, September 29-30. Deep Bottom October 1. Battle of Fair
Oaks October 27-28. Duty in trenches north of James River before Richmond till
April, 1865. Occupation of Richmond April 3, 1865. Duty in the Dept. of Virginia
till May. Moved to Texas May 24-June 6. Duty at Brownsville and at various
points on the Rio Grande and at Brazos Santiago, Indianola and Galveston, Texas,
till January, 1867. Mustered out January 25, 1867.
Regiment lost during service 1 Officer and 42 Enlisted men killed and mortally
wounded and 2 Officers and 192 Enlisted men by disease. Total 237.
