This was truly a historical event in Tennessee for the 13th
USCT. This is the first time the United States Colored Troops have been
formally recognized by the Tennessee State legislative body. The 13th USCT was
recognized for its contributions to the citizens of Tennessee by preserving the
rich heritage of its citizens of color. The proclamation noted the many
education programs and living history demonstrations conducted by the 13th. It
was also acknowledged that the Congressional Veterans' Brain Trust had honored
the 13th last year in Washington, D.C.
