SOUL SOLDIERS

African Americans and the Vietnam Era

On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2006, the Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center will open Soul Soldiers: African Americans and the Vietnam Era.

This multi-media exhibition tells the story of how the Vietnam War and civil rights movement affected African American life and culture.

Soul Soldiers explores black power, the draft, service and combat, women in Vietnam, relationships, and popular culture's response and influence in this tumultuous era.

The exhibit includes artifacts from veterans and features an original documentary edited with film taken by veterans in Vietnam from 1969-1971. Also included in Soul Soldiers will be art produced by Vietnam veterans and the impact of health, employment, and veterans' organizations after the war.
